Why there is a need?
A student's profile consists of grades for courses taken, standardized test scores, extracurricular activities, personal interests, and community service, among other things. A high school will present a curriculum of courses and the student will achieve certain grades, depending on motivation and ability. The rest of the package may not be addressed in school.
Yet, it needs to be learned. Through a series of workshops and one-on-one coaching, One Step Ahead®
shows students and their parents the steps needed to put together a competitive package, starting in the 6th grade.
One Step Ahead®
helps students with practical action plans. Using our templates, our students have successfully gained acceptance to the colleges of their choice and have won hundreds of thousands of dollars in financial aid. We teach students:
- The importance of preparing for standardized testing and where to get free or low-cost training;
- How to document their high school extracurricular activities;
- How to identify and qualify for financial aid;
- How to write winning essays;
- How to get effective recommendations;
- Where to find free summer enrichment programs;
- And much, much more.
One Step Ahead®, workshops and coaching sessions are presented through youth programs at churches, community-based organizations, and after-school programs in schools.
